Viking Court

Viking Court boasts the largest sleeping capacity among the cabins at Hewnoaks, making it an ideal space for artist groups. Situated on the eastern edge of the upper lawn, just a short walk from the main lodge, this two-story, five-bedroom cottage maintains many of its original Tudor Revival architectural details, including latticed windows, stucco siding, and dark-stained wood trim.

Originally constructed between 1901 and 1904, Viking Court began as a one-bedroom cottage for Douglas and Marion Volk’s sons, Wendell and Jerry. Over time, it expanded to five bedrooms, offering a blend of historic charm and modern functionality. A unique feature of the building is its concrete ramp at the rear—originally designed for boat access—which Hewnoaks artists have creatively repurposed in many ways.

Beyond its spacious interior, Viking Court offers two inviting outdoor spaces: a screened porch and an open-air pavilion, both of which serve as excellent spots for relaxation, studio work, or casual gatherings.

Inside, the cabin balances rustic charm with comfort. The five bedrooms offer a mix of queen and twin-sized beds, while the two full bathrooms ensure shared but convenient facilities for residents.
