After a yearlong hiatus, we’re thrilled to announce that applications for the Hewnoaks summer residency program open tomorrow, January 10, and will close on Monday, February 10.

Hewnoaks is as much a regenerative retreat as it is a generative one. It’s a chance to pause, reflect, and recharge—standing still in your life to move forward in your creative practice.

Our weeklong and ten-day residencies are designed to fit seamlessly into the busy lives of the emerging and mid-career artists we serve. If fully subsidized time and space sound like the antidote to the pressures and distractions pulling you away from focused attention on your work, this is your chance to apply.

🌲✨ Dreaming of a creative escape? How does unstructured time to work, wander, study, and dream on the serene shores of Maine's Kezar Lake sound?

Applications for our 2025 summer residency season open this Friday, January 10, and the deadline is Monday, February 10.

🌟 Each summer, over 45 artists across all disciplines step away from the noise of daily life to immerse themselves in 1-week or 10-day residencies, running from June through early October. While artists from anywhere are welcome, 75% of our spaces are reserved for Maine-based creatives. Applications will be reviewed by an independent jury of professionals.

💡 Fellowship opportunities include:
✨ The Warren Memorial Foundation Fellowship, offering a $750 stipend for Westbrook, Maine-based artists in any discipline.
✨ The Bodwell Fellowship, a collaboration with @mainewriters207, awarded to one emerging writer annually. Bodwell Fellows receive a residency at Hewnoaks, a $500 award, and a 1-year MWPA membership (or an extension of their current membership).

Over the past four months, we were proud to host 48 exceptional artists, each bringing their distinctive voices and visions to a space that has offered sanctuary to creative practitioners for over 120 years. Thank you for another amazing season.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re thrilled to bring back our open call and jury process after a brief pause. We’ll be accepting applications starting in late January or early February. And we’ve got a surprise in store—a new element we’re adding to our offerings that we’re sure will spark fresh excitement. Stay tuned for more details soon.
