Job Opening: Summer Colony Manager

The Hewnoaks Artist Colony is seeking an organized, responsible creative person to live on our beautiful campus on Kezar Lake for the summer. Duties will include checking residents in and out each weekend, some cleaning and caring for our cottages, light groundskeeping, making sure artists have what they need to work, assisting with documentation and social media, communicating regularly with the Hewnoaks Executive Director and local board members, hosting weekly get togethers with artists and board members, attending to any sudden facilities issues, and encouraging conversations among resident artists each week.

This position requires living at the Hewnoaks lodge from June 19th through September 25th and will involve roughly 20 hours of work each week depending on the needs of the residents. Applicants must be able to work all Saturdays as this is our change-over day, and days away must be scheduled in advance.

The right candidate will have experience with artists and artist colonies and a willingness to fit their own creative practice around the needs of our residents. Hewnoaks occupies a rustic historic property, and our Summer Colony Manager will need to be comfortable monitoring the property for issues that may arise.

Spouses/partners are welcome to stay as well, but children cannot be accommodated. Sorry, no pets.

Payment is a $4000 stipend for the summer in addition to a private bedroom, bathroom and studio space in our main lodge.

Please submit a letter of interest, a resume and three references, saved as one pdf, and email it to: info@hewnoaks.org, with the subject line “Summer Colony Manager.”

The application window will be open until May 3, 2017 but we may begin interviewing and fill the position before then.
